The War of 2019

For this exercise the group from Mrs. Geraghty's were asked to write a paragraph on trying to make their way through war torn London - the task was to describe all they could see around them and also what was going through their minds. They are worth a read, the standard is very high.

The War of 2019 - Stephen Lammond
I ran through the street and stopped, my heart was pounding.  My head was in a spin. My nostrils were filled with smoke and the strong smell of blood.  Turning to my right, I saw a group of soldiers wearing gas masks running towards me.  Now I was trembling and totally petrified. I ducked down behind a car and closed my eyes. One of the soldiers shouted out an order "Spread out, take no prisoners". Moving like a snake I wriggled under the car. I was totally surrounded. I closed my eyes, praying that the soldiers would disappear. I thought to myself "Where's my mommy?".

I am running through the city, petrified that a bomb might explode near me. BANG! There goes another innocent person I sigh to myself. I’m crouched down so that the Germans will not shoot me and also that I won’t be crushed. All I can see is dead people, blood (lots of it) and wrecked buildings. I wouldn’t wish this horror on my worst enemy. “Dostacki compala” I hear. Uh-oh, the Germans are very close. I peek up above the big wall for a second and there right in-front of me, is the German army. “Get down” I say to myself. I can also see people rushing somewhere. “How am I supposed to get out of this horror?” I think. I can’t move because I risk getting shot or being crushed by the angry mob. There is a shop with a big hole in the glass. “What do I do?” I think to myself. I can’t shout to anyone because the Germans will hear me. Wait, there’s a gun about 10 metres in-front of me. If I got it I could shoot the Germans and get food and water in the shop. On the other hand I could get shot by the Germans. Will I or won’t I?

I ran through the city, petrified that a bomb could explode near me at any moment. I heard explosions from miles away but I knew that one was coming for me soon. I saw some people coming off a ship looking suspicious. I had a feeling that they didn't like the English. I hunched down near a boulder so that the suspicious men wouldn't see me. As I looked up I saw fighter jets. Then I looked at the jets carefully. OHH NOOO! ITS THE GERMANS! I figured that if the ones up there are Germans, then the ones down here are Germans! I was trembling with fear as I heard the German say "You are all going to die!!!"

The War of 2019 - Kasjan Derewianyk
I ran through the city, petrified that a bomb would explode and kill me. People were dashing up and down the street. I didn't know what to do. Blood was everywhere, houses were wrecked. I had a scars everywhere but I couldn't stop now. Now I had to find my mam… Suddenly a bullet landed beside my. I looked behind and seen nobody there. I hunched down as I knew it probably was a sniper. Now another bullet landed on the left. "I've missed again!" was the sound I heard from the top of a roof. I looked up and seen a tall man with a greyish jacket. I started running a away but tripped over my shoelace. "This is the end," I thought to myself, "he was going to catch me anyways" I closed my eyes waiting for the shot to come. I heard a scream"Aaaaaahhhh, bomb!" I opened my eyes he through the smoke I couldn't see the man. "The bomb must have hit him"I thought to myself "That was close, I really need to get out of this freakin' place."

The War of 2019 - Thomas Nyland
I sprinted through the bombed city, petrified. I trembled as I thought  of the bombs hitting me at any moment. There were fighter planes, lazering what was left of the burnt-down city, with hundreds and hundreds of camouflaged army men patrolling the grounds of the town hall. I was so scared that I couldn't even put one foot in front of the other! The army men were armed with vicious-looking shotguns with lazer guns and ray guns at the ready. they looked tough, so I decided not to get in their way. "Das Auto," one of them said.

The War of 2019 - Declan Mortimer
I was running through the city frightened for my life. I was hunched down so no snipers could shoot me. Then I saw a crowd of angry people running to catch the last boat for today, but then disaster struck the nazis saw that people were heading to catch the boat so they bombed it. I was nearly in tears then because I thought to myself that this is all happening in one click of a finger. I went in a ally way and cried myself to sleep thinking of my parents and where they are.

The War of 2019 - Oisín Quinn
I ran as fast as I could through the demolished city. I do not know where I am or where my family is the only thing I know is that we are under attack. There are ground troops patrolling the area and fighter jets dropping bombs everywhere. I am petrified that a bomb will explode near me. I am trying to stay hunched so that I do not get hit by snipers. I can see blood spewing everywhere. There is smoke all around me.I can see people running for there lives. I have never been so hungry or as dehydrated in my life but the thing that scares me most is the thought of never seeing my family again. I can just about make out the shape of a house in the distance but I am not sure I can make it.

The War of 2019 - Jack McDonald
I ran through the town petrified, knowing my life was on the brink! But what terrified me most was that my beloved town was crumbling before my eyes and I could do nothing. I was panicking because being so young I had always been wrapped up in cotton wool and treated like a prince. As I was running a bomb fell only inches away from where I was standing, I  just stood there struck dumb. I closed my eyes thinking my life was about to end but nothing happened. I realised it must be faulty so with out another thought I ran as fast as my legs would carry me.

The War of 2019  - Donovan McHale
As I ran through the city I hunched in a hedge out of sight from German snipers . Off their air radar I could see a shop but the distance was too far in an area hovering with fighter planes and crowded with soldiers. I thought I was found as I heard guns shooting but it was lots of English troops firing at Germans and bombs started raining down I was petrified and frozen in fear.
