The Final - Key Moments

The Impact of Diarmuid Connolly by David Grealis

I watch as Diarmuid Connolly bursts through the Mitchels defence, handpasses to a teammate who taps it into the goal. He’s bursting with confidence, he gets the ball again and puts it over the bar. He is roasting his man. He fists the ball into the net. “Yes” he shouts. He must feel like he could take on anyone. Again he scores a goal, flicking up the ball and hitting a rifle of a shot into the top corner of the net.  Diarmuid Connolly, has scored an amazing 2-5, is looking confident with every step and is no doubt the man of the match. He’s had a huge impact on the game.

The impact of Diarmuid Connolly on the Castlebar Mitchels on Monday last was devastating and ultimately
led to their unexpected downfall. His strength, speed and agility impacted greatly,by reducing Mitchel's confidence. Diarmuid Connolly scored a whopping 2-5, and
assisted a further 2 goals in the 60 minutes of the game. Three of his scores showed
his utter brilliance; one was scored wit his right foot, one with his fist and a third with
his left foot.Connolly's impact was evident, as the final whistle blew, and the disappointment was clear to see on the defeated Mitchel's faces. St.Vincent's have won the battle, but not the war!

Diarmud Connolly made a huge impact to the game by crunching two magnificent goals into the mitchels net and was a crucial figure for the other two Vincent's goals. He also ran through midfield and scored five points!!!

I caught up to a Mitchels fan and asked how did he feel when the referee showed the black card. He said " It was a huge disappointment for everybody including Richie. 5 minutes into the game, stupid. Outrageous and ridiculous. He was one of our best players. He didn't have to do that. Left the referee no choice.

What about the impact of Diarmuid Connolly was the next question. He answered " He made a huge impact. He scored goals for fun. Left foot. Right foot. Hand. Anything. He had to feel great, like he could take on the whole world. He single-handedly won them the match. 2 goals. 2 assists. He had to be man of the match. Huge impact."

Thanks Bob! Now I'm in Croke Park to interview this young man about the game. So tell me some Key moments about that game. First of all there was Richie Feeney`s black card after only five minutes. He was replaced but he is one of Mitchel`s most influential  players. He has been described as their spiritual leader. It was a very harsh call and most people feel it only deserved a yellow card.

The second key moment was the impact of Diarmuad Connolly . His first goal was St. Vincent's third goal and it swung the game their way. He flicked the ball with his hand over the Castlebar goalie`s reach. The ball had bounced outside the box and it possibly could have been defended better.
The third key moment also came from Connolly, He ran 40 yards through the Mitchels' defence and blasted the ball with his left foot into the top right corner of the net. Once again the Mitchel`s defence was breached too easily but it rounded off a magnificent display from the St. Vincents star forward.

Diarmuid Connolly was outstanding in a head in hands performance from Mitchels .Every time he picked up the ball there was looks of fear and anxietly upon the Mitchels supporters.Every thing St.Vincents did right Connelly was at the heart of it passing, scoring, blocking and tackling. The 26 year old continuously punched holes in the Mitchels defence and made the trip to Dublin seem pointless for the Mitchels supporters and the squad. The marking on Connelly was horrendous it was like his marker was invisible but it just down to Connelly 's pure talent and skill. But this loss is just one page in a book and by the time the book is read Mitchels will have won!

The referee blew his whistle to indicate it was a goal.  My body was full of adrenalin and I was running and shouting as I could not control myself.  I turned my hand into a rock-hard fist and punched the air.  The crowd roared with excitement and joy.  I felt invincible, nothing was going to get in my way.  The referee blew the whistle again.  "This is my game".

Diarmuid Connolly is a gaelic footballer with St. Vincents and Dublin. He played exellent against Castlebar Mitchels in the All-Ireland Club Football Final. He set up the four goals St. Vincents scored in the game. He made some great counter attacks which was great for the Vincents fans but a nightmare for Mitchels and their fans to have Connolly playing for St. Vincents.  He scored a wonderful 2 goals and 5 points himself and assisted in scoring another 2 goals and 3 point and won Man of The Match.

Connolly puts the ball in the back of the net. The devastation was running through my mind. But we concentrated on the next ball. But Connolly was still running through are defense as if we weren't there and kept on scoring points and goals. Its like every time they they pass the halfway line it looked they were going to score. Oh its Connolly again will he get the point this but he goes for the pass and its another point Diarmuid Connolly is man of the match for sure.
